Komms Business or Komms Community?
Workspaces are for teams that work together. Servers are for communities that gather around something. Here's how to choose.
Komms comes in two flavours. They share one app and one account, so you can belong to a company workspace and a few community servers at the same time.
Choose Komms Business if…#
- You're a company, a team or an organisation that works together.
- Conversations are mostly private to your team, your clients or your suppliers.
- You want roles, an admin console and support with set-up.
A Business workspace holds your channels, direct messages and files. You pay one flat price for the workspace, whatever the size of your team. Team sizes on each plan are recommendations, not limits.
Choose Komms Community if…#
- You run a club, a project, a fan group or any online community.
- You want public channels anyone can read, alongside invite-only spaces.
- Members come and go, and you don't want to pay per head.
A Community server holds your channels and members. Members are never counted or charged for, on any plan.
Side by side#
| Business workspace | Community server | |
|---|---|---|
| Members | No limit; plans recommend a team size | No limit, never counted |
| Channels | Private by default | Public or invite-only |
| Free plan | Starter: 10 GB storage | Community Free: 10 GB storage |
| Paid plans | Team, Growth, Scale, Bespoke | Community Plus, Large communities |
| Support | Priority support on Scale | Priority support on Community Plus |
Prices and allowances are on Plans and pricing.
Note
Public channels are readable by anyone, by design. If a conversation should stay private, use a private channel or a direct message. See What others can see.
Can I switch later?#
Your account works in both. If your needs change, create the other kind of space and invite people across. Moving content between a workspace and a server is not automatic, but you can export your history at any time.
