Create your account

Sign up with your email, sign in with a passkey, and save your recovery kit. Your Komms identity is created the first time you do something.

Creating a Komms account takes a couple of minutes. There's no password to invent, and no crypto to buy.

1. Sign up#

Sign up with your email address on the web. Komms checks your email and runs a quick check on your device to keep out automated sign-ups. Nothing is created on the network yet.

2. Add a passkey#

You sign in to Komms with a passkey: a key saved on your phone, laptop or a security key, unlocked with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. Passkeys can't be phished or leaked in a data breach, because there's no password to steal.

Most phones and laptops can sync passkeys between your own devices. How well that works depends on your device maker's passkey sync.

3. Your identity is created at your first action#

Your Komms identity is created on the Kaspa network the first time you do something, such as:

  • creating a workspace or a server
  • joining a private workspace
  • starting or accepting a conversation
  • sending a message, posting or reacting

Receiving an invite or reading a public channel creates nothing. Komms covers the network cost of creating one identity per account, so it's free.

4. Save your recovery kit#

When your identity is created, Komms asks you to save your recovery kit and confirm you've saved it. You can't skip this step.

Important

Your recovery kit is full control of your account. Anyone who holds it can take over your account straight away. Store it offline, somewhere safe, and never share it or paste it into a website or chat.

Read Your recovery kit to understand what it can do and how to replace it.

5. Pick your username#

Your username is how people find you. Choose carefully: if you ever close your account, that username is retired for good and can't be used again.
