What the team still runs

The services and keys the Komms team still runs on its own at the public beta, why, and what replaces each one.

Komms is designed so no single company controls it. At the public beta, some parts are still run by the Komms team alone. We list them here so you know where you're relying on us. Where things stand before that beta is on Network status.

Area What the team runs What it means for you Moving towards
Storage The storage provider account and the ledger that counts storage per workspace If it's down, new uploads pause; reading files carries on More storage operators
Public records The service that publishes each identity's public records If it falls behind, records publish late; your devices keep working Anyone can publish the same records
Sign-up checks Email and device checks at sign-up Komms sees your email address An agreed independent check
Plans and billing The service that issues plan entitlements, and the card payments account Plan changes depend on it Production keys held by more than one person
Network keys Keys for the operator roster, registry and treasury Mistakes or theft could affect operators Two-of-three custody before mainnet
Operator programme Using at least a quarter of subscription revenue to purchase subnet 27 alpha, and repaying miners at the cost of the Kaspa fees they front Miner repayments depend on it Two-of-three custody, checked independently
Releases Signing the desktop apps; hosting komms.app You trust that a release really comes from us Signed, verifiable releases

What the team can't do#

  • Read your private messages or files
  • Take over your identity or move its value; only your keys and your recovery kit can
  • Change your history after it's anchored on Kaspa

How we'll keep this page honest#

Each item comes off this list once an independent alternative is running. This page is updated when that happens. The team keeps a fuller technical inventory; ask at [email protected] if you need detail.
